Four decades.
One consistent thread.

A career spanning commercial real estate, entrepreneurship, pioneering digital change and global financial services transformation, always built around bringing people with it.

Dan Margetts is an executive coach whose practice is built on four decades of leading people through complexity at scale, across seven countries and many more cultures. Coaching was not a late career change. It was a formal recognition of a capability that had been central to every role, in every country, across the whole of a long and varied professional life.

Global financial services transformation

ING Bank  ·  EY  ·  Nordea  ·  HSBC

Successive transformation programmes in financial crime and Anti-Money Laundering, each requiring change to be led through people at genuine scale, up to 1,000+ FTE, across multiple countries and cultures, often under regulatory pressure. Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS). The through-line in every engagement was the same: helping people understand why change was necessary, building the trust that made it possible, and delivering outcomes that lasted.

Pioneering digital and technology change

HSBC UK, USA/Canada, Mexico  ·  Coast Capital Savings, Vancouver

Built HSBC's first enterprise intranet. Managed HSBCnet, approximately 1,000 indirect reports, a $200m+ budget, a 400% productivity increase, becoming the foundation of HSBC global internet banking. Led IT and quality across three countries in Mexico. Appointed by the CEO of Coast Capital Savings to lead a three-year enterprise transformation programme across 37 projects. At every stage: building something new and bringing diverse people with it.

Entrepreneurship and organisation creation

H+H Internet Marketing, London  ·  H2M Trading, Madrid / Los Angeles

Built businesses from scratch across two continents, finding markets and customers where none existed. Early internet marketing in London in the mid-1990s, followed by cross-continental trading between Europe and the US. The discipline of building from nothing, without hierarchy, without infrastructure, without a playbook, informed everything that followed in large organisations.

1986, 1996

Commercial real estate and professional advisory

Speyhawk PLC, London  ·  Independent consultancy, London and Moscow

Managed a £700m development programme in the City of London. Qualified as a Chartered Surveyor (ARICS). Independent consultancy work that included Moscow in the early 1990s, a formative experience of operating in an environment with no rules, no precedent, and no infrastructure, which required precisely the kind of adaptive, people-first thinking that has defined everything since.
